Subject: BLACKOUT ON MODELS FROM SKETCH UP
Subject: Re: BLACKOUT ON MODELS FROM SKETCH UP
Hi Forestere nice to see you back again. Sorry can't help you with this one because i don't use Sketch Up, but I have noticed when riding other peoples creations that sometimes the objects have black sides where there should be textures, don't know wether this caused by Sketch Up or just bad textures.
If anybody else knows what causes this please feel free to help Forestere out.

Actually as a foot note after looking at the enlarged version of the picture it looks like the blackouts are caused by the way the lighting is applied, all the shaded areas appear to be in the blackout zone.

Thanks for the helpful comments!
I have imported other models ...like "Meshbox" and they seem to do the same thing.
I wonder if it is No Limits that is doing it.
I have tried changing the settings in the Sim. I have noticed that where the sun is is where the best lighting on the models is also.
I wish you could take out the sun aspect in the Sim, maybe that would work?
I have put in the "white" background downloaded from here I think, and the model is lit a bit more than in any other background enviroment
It really has put a halt on my coaster building. I'm a themed coaster builder!!!!!
I can spend 5 or 6 days just building the station with great detail, just to give up when the model doesn't render properly.
Bummer for now

I think you're right about it being the simulator, I do remember the objects in older versions of the sim were working correctly, it's only with the latest version that the problem occurs.
It is probably caused by incorrect programming of the 3D drivers in the sim, possibly in the shaders bit not displaying textures correctly, hopefully Ole will sort out the problem in version 2 of NoLimits when it comes out.

I hope Ole does give some time and interest in the importing of 3ds objects. They do give a much needed detail and realism to the ride. I know that was not the original intent, just wanted to create the coasters themselves. At least have more options for the look of the stations, or have an editor for them to be totally remodeled for your theme. I really don't care for all the detail he is putting in for the sky, although I do like the added weather ( rain ) .
I wish I had the know how to create my own engine.
Hey just thinking about it does your version of No Limits still say 6 even with the upgrade being 7 ?
I do wish he would add the Flume ride though, with his detail to the ground cover I'm sure the flowing water would look great. Plus I would kill for a waterfall. or just some sort of animation or sound effects that could be added along certain parts of the ride...( themed again)

If I open the program (the simulator not the editor) and look at the info tab then it does say version 1.71, if yours is still saying version 6 then try the updates again.
I do seem to remember reading somewhere the Ole was considering including a flume ride in the new version, if you check out this topic You must be registered to view this link there are all the version 2 updates provided by Ole and a sneak peak at the features to be included, there also a good topic to be found at You must be registered to view this link under the heading of the ultimate NL2 topic.
